Description

Original Item: One Only. A British Royal Navy Officer's high quality Epaulets and waist belt set Tin, (Note Epaulets and belt NOT included). Tin marked and painted "R.P.NINNES, R.N." with Interior lined with red velour finish with compartment for waist belt and dual hangers for the high quality Dress Uniform Epaulets. The exterior bearing two Royal Naval painted insignias of "roped Anchors in blue ovals" in duplicate. Tin also bears the brass Maker's shield for "GIEVES" (of Saville Row, London) and emblazoned with the British Royal Coat of Arms. Arms showing King's Crown indicating post 1901 manufacture. With the case is an oval framed and glazed silhouette likeness of a young midshipman probably dating to the 1860s which was said to be, in the Museum record from where this set was acquired, the young Mr. Ninnes shortly after his acceptance into the Royal Navy. Presumably he enjoyed a long career reaching giddy heights requiring Flag Officer status Epaulets from one of London's finest outfitters at the turn of the century. Well worth additional research.
