Description

Original Item: One Only! This is an original East German Army Helmet, disbanded in 1991 after the collapse of East Germany and the Berlin Wall, which was probably "traded" by a British Soldier on guard duty with his East German Counterpart at one of the Berlin Wall Check Points. (Remember "Check Point CHARLIE"). This helmet has the name of the original German owner with his Berlin address on a label stuck onto the inside of the helmet close to the original suede leather type liner. The chin strap is no longer present. Now the very dark green exterior of the helmet has been hand painted with  a big hand painted white shield in the middle of which is a large "rampant" bear surmounted by a Crown/Coronet above the shield representing the ancient  Arms of the City of Berlin. "BERLIN" in large gold letters emblazoned over the left side of the helmet and "QUEEN'S LANCASHIRE REGIMENT" in gold letter emblazoned on the right side of the helmet. This is a really interesting memento of the Cold War from its coldest place, the east/west Berlin wall. Shows real age and may date from the late 1950s or 1960s but could date from the 1980s. A really nice piece of original Military History that we can be pretty sure really was there.
