Original Item: Only One Available. This is a most interesting Middle Eastern Flintlock Pistol. Circa 1820 from the Black Sea region, or possibly from the Northern side, as indicated by the ball-shaped butt.

The wood stock is profusely inlaid with horn (stag?) slivers. There is no accommodation for either a ramrod or trigger guard which together with the ball butt indicates a Cossack influence.

It appears that this pistol fell into the hands of the Turks who replaced the original Migulet style lock with a typical Turkish flintlock. The lock is heavily embossed and inlaid with gold to match the very decorative long 14.5” barrel. The barrel carries what appear to be early European proof marks which could just place the barrel of Spanish or Italian origin. The pistol is a massive 21" in overall length.

The romantic "Ball Butted" pistols were a middle-eastern hangover from 16th century wheel locks are often observed in old etchings of Buccaneers and Bandits from the early 1800s.
