Description
Original Item: Only One Available: This is a most interesting cutlass dating from the later half of the 19th century with a Mexican made blade by Anslreberto Aragon of Oxaca. It has a curved unfullered 28" blade which swells toward the front and 34" in overall length. This shape blade is often referred to as a beaver tail. The brass pommel is in the shape of a very dramatic Eagle Head, and the S-shaped half guard protects a reptile skin copper wire bound grip. The blade is etched with inscriptions on both sides:

MÍ BALOR, ES MÍ TEMPLE.
Fabricado en Cjntla, por Anstreberto Aragón

When we received the blade, there was an old label on the blade bearing a translation:- "My Courage is my strength" and "Fabricated in Cjntla by Anstreberto Aragón". The serial number appears to be 33.

Fascinating and just as it came out of the attic, and excellent research opportunity. Ready to be gently cleaned and put on display!
