Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic, full-scale resin copy of the famed Springfield Model 1903. This resin rifle was most likely used for drill and ceremonial purposes such as the manual of arms and other movements. These were used for practice, as to ensure that actual weapon systems were not damaged until the user mastered the movements.

The Fort Benning Training Support Center (TSC), IAW Army Regulation 350-38, Training Devices Polices and Management, will retain positive control and execute property accountability for all Training Aids, Devices, Simulators and Simulations (TADSS), fabrication services and Graphic Training Aids (GTAs) to support Army wide requirements. IAW AR 5-9, Area Support Responsibilities, the TSC provides area support for the Active Component (AC) and Reserve Component (RC) units, (U.S. Army Reserve and Army National Guard) College ROTC and JROTC units in the state of Alabama and Georgia.

This rifle is marked on the buttstock with:

TRAINING AIDS
FORT BENNING
TAD-30

This marking would indicate where it came from, and in this case it was US Army Base Fort Benning, Georgia. TAD is “Training Aids Device” 30, the number 30 indicating the “Rifle, M1903, Plastic”. Today the TAD number for this specific training aid is TAD-0209, meaning this is most likely a pre-2000’s example.

There is no significant damage present other than the expected material loss. As stated earlier, these were intended to be “beat up” so the real weapon system would not. The rifle comes with a lovely “parade sling” which is still in functional order.

A lovely example that comes more than ready for display.

The M1903 Springfield, officially the United States Rifle, Caliber .30-06, Model 1903, is an American five-round magazine-fed, bolt-action service repeating rifle, used primarily during the first half of the 20th century.

The M1903 was first used in combat during the Philippine–American War, and it was officially adopted by the United States as the standard infantry rifle on June 19, 1903, where it saw service in World War I, and was replaced by the faster-firing semi-automatic eight-round M1 Garand starting in 1936. However, the M1903 remained in service as a standard issue infantry rifle during World War II, since the U.S. entered the war without sufficient M1 rifles to arm all troops. It also remained in service as a sniper rifle during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. It remains popular as a civilian firearm, historical collector's piece, a competitive shooting rifle, and as a military drill rifle.
