Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This textbook Eickhorn 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger is in fine condition. It has all aluminum mounts. These aluminum mounts are done in the textbook fashion, the pommel being heart shaped. It is nicely rendered throughout the oak leaves, with fine hand enhancements, and the swass are nice and bold.

The crossguard features the usual eagle, flying to the left and clutching a swas. There is little to no wear on this guard, and the reverse has a good, crisply pebbled panel. The upper quillon arms have engraved oak leaves and acorns, with fine pebbling added to the surfaces.

The grip of this dagger is most attractive, being orange on the obverse and fading to a egg yolk yellow on the reverse. This grip was originally a yellow color, but seventy years of light and exposure have treated us to this shade of orange. This grip is in perfect condition. The grip is tightly wrapped with springy aluminum wire.

The scabbard is a choice airplane gray toned example, with the convex bands used by Eickhorn. The throat is retained by one dome head side screw. A very nice mint scabbard here.

The blade of this dagger is also in fine condition. It is still nice and bright and has all of the original crossgrain and a needle-like tip. There are a couple of extremely minor signs of age, negligible really, and the blade rates in Near Mint condition. The reverse ricasso of the blade is stamped (not etched) with the 1935-41 Eickhorn Squirrel trademark. When we see this stamped trademark it is always a little smaller than the etched type. This stamped variant was used about 1940. The original blue pebbled leather blade buffer is in place within the deep recesses of the guard.

A n excellent early war Eickhorn 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger!
